It's great to say you want to become an SQF Consultant - but the question is how do you get started on the path to this wonderful way of life (and it has been wonderful for me) and how do I actually operate my own consulting business...
About Me & How I can help you to operate your own Consulting Business...
My name is Glenn Oster and for the past 14 years I have been primarily an SQF Consultant.
I operate my business out of my own "virtual office" which allows me to conduct my consulting from anywhere in the United States and even outside the United States.
Thus, I am NOT tied to an office environment and do not have to commute everyday to a building, but can either travel to a client's location or stay remote and complete all the work they need me to do.
My past has most certainly given me a good rounding for consulting work. I've been an SQF, BRC an FSSC Auditor, 2nd & 3rd Party Auditor inspecting over 4,000 locations in the United States and Canada. Prior to that I worked as a food safety inspector for several major BIG BOX stores and was a cross-country inspector and consultant for one of the biggest chains of hotels n the United States and this included inspecting both the hotel and attached restaurants.
I actually "grew up" in the restaurant business, first filling salt and pepper shakers at the age of 7 and graduating to being a dishwasher at the age of 9... I would go on to become a pot washer, bulk food runner, dessert station worker, pantry cook, line cook and finnally a Roundsman Chef with an International Hotel chain.
It was working as an SQF Auditor that I realized that what I really wanted to do was to help people to fix what was wrong instead of just pointing out what was wrong.
I learned a lot about operating my own consulting business from how to charge companes, when to bill them, how to plan travel, what to allow the client to handle, how to set up projects, how not to take low prices for my work and how best to balance my business and home life...
There is actually a lot more to preparation, getting yourself up and running and staying in business with a stream of clients coming to you...
If you are planning on becoming a GFSI (SQF, BRC, IFS, FSSC, etc.) Consultant speaking with and getting suggestions and tips (plus having your questions answered) from a highly experienced Consultant will be the best investment you could make.
We will do it all during your (up to 7 hours) time with me on the phone and during your first three months in business you can call or email me for simple trouble shooting, issues, billing suggestions, etc. The allowance of time (7 hours) is the total time and does not represent one session, but can be used over the 90 day time period - we'll keep track of time used.
